In addition to exercise and fresh air, a round of golf gives rise to mental and intellectual stress relief. I think we all experience that. Some of the more serious challenges from work and / or private life are pushed into the background of that what is in front of us here and now.
Can I find my ball, how many strokes have I used and what do the rules say? A round of golf provides mental healing as well as re-charging your energy levels. We golfers therefore do not have to frequent seminars to learn Mindfulness.
For most golfers it comes by itself. When the brain stands still, the mind is allowed to fly and gives way to spontaneous ideas and reflections on everyday paradoxes. In this vacuum of thought, life is put into perspective and the score of the round only has a short-term effect on our mood.
We meet people with skills, experiences, perspectives, ideas and values other than our own. Maybe we don’t talk much during the game, but a single remark or comment can set off a new chain of thoughts.
