As you can see from the map-picture it is only 10 minutes’ drive from Fontanals golf to Golf de Cerdana. Just about 5 km on the other side of the valley. But what a difference. See Cerdanya’s own introduction:
The golf club
A unique environment
The Real Club de Golf Cerdaña is located in the Cerdanya valley. The outline of the Pyrenees and its entire mountain range are visible from the entire route creating, together with its centuries-old trees and the microclimate of the territory, a unique experience.
Just 137km from Barcelona, the club has 27 holes that represent a magnificent walk-through nature. This environment allows the player to avoid urban distractions and maintain concentration in the most important moments, such as the arrival at the green, where mastery of the “short irons” is key to avoiding trees and bunkers.
Also, we learn from their website and surely you will when you get to the golf course. This is a club and a golf course much older than Fontanals. Not surprisingly it gives a very different atmosphere and an ambience of authenticity.
The year 1929 was one of those mythical years in the contemporary history of Catalonia. Year of the Universal Exhibition, a great qualitative leap in many states and situations of our society. And it was also the year of the birth of one of the most popular clubs in Catalonia: the Real Club de Golf de Cerdanya, the first in the province of Girona. Its name of Real comes from the presence at the inauguration of HM King Alfonso XIII. Curiously, his grandson, the current King John Charles I, landed in a helicopter at the club’s facilities, in 1982, exactly on the 18th hole, being captivated by the surroundings, he told the then president of the Federation Spanish Golfer, Luis Figueras-Dotti: “Why hadn’t I been told that there was such a beautiful golf course in Puigcerdà?”.
Here, you immediately see and feel the difference from Fontanals.
This is a place made for golfers to play golf, socialize, relax and enjoy the nature and the quietness. And, maybe not obvious, staff that know about golf and welcome you as a golfer.
A very promising start of a round of golf.
All over the place: the course, the clubhouse, the restaurant, and the hotel, the staff gives the place an ambience of authenticity. A place to stay for a weekend, enjoying the play and the social life, the smell of nature. All together enough to forget about busy days ahead and those days that are gone.
The golf course
The golf course has 27 holes.
3 times 9 holes that they are mixing into 2 different 18-holes courses. Golf in this place – even during a 3 week holiday – will never be boring. The landscape leave room for a great variety of golf holes.

As you can see from the pictures, a very different landscape from Fontanals. Exciting in a very different way than the golf course in the bottom of the valley.
The course is well maintained – but not manicured. You play in the nature. From the beginning some people may have had the vision that on this land you could make a great golf course in the nature, without disturbing the nature. They have been very successful in doing so. The course has many great holes.
The mental part of the game
This course invites you to play and enjoy, every stroke and every putt – whether excellent, good, or not so good.
Next round – you know . . . . . . . . . Take your time to play at least 2 rounds. And different combinations of the 18 and or 9 holes courses. You deserve it – it brings inner peace and harmony.
Next time we get to this area we will stay and play here. It’s a treat for the soul.
