The tour goes on as life goes on
Dear all,
As you all know our golf trip around the world was disrupted in March a couple of days before we were scheduled to end the South African part of our trip to go to Australia. After 63 days in quarantine we finally got a flight back to Denmark.
Then we have spend another month in a B&B in Denmark (remember we rented out our house) before we could go to our house in Spain. After 4 weeks in Spain, we went back to our Danish B&B for a week. Our reasons were:
Firstly, because, my team, had to play the final match in our group.
An important match because a loss would relegate us to the lower qualifying level – which would be a blow to our egos because last year we won the Danish Championship for Super Veterans. I
can confirm that I won my match and so did the team, so we will stay in the first division for the next year.
Secondly, because we now could travel from Denmark to the United Kingdom without any Corona restrictions.
England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland were on the third and final leg of our original travel plan. But now we could make it our second leg. All though with some changes to our original plan. One reason is that Ireland still have some restrictions. Anyway – here we are.
I am now sitting in a kitchen in an B&B apartment in the city of Musselburgh. We arrived in Edinburgh airport Tuesday evening. That is August 18th.
We have divided our Scotland trip into 3 parts. As you can see on the picture.
The first part is East Lothian – Edinburgh.
We expect to stay in this area about 8 days playing known courses like Royal Musselburgh, Muirfield and North Berwick. See red dots on the next picture.
But we are not just playing these famous courses. Following the road along the coast from Musselburgh city to North Berwick, a stretch of about 30 miles, you will find no less than 14 golf clubs, each with their own 18 hole golf course.
The second part is a stretch going from Inverness and Nairn and up to the very north of Scotland. Where we have Durness Golf Club – one of the courses mentioned in the book “Fifty courses you need to play before your die”. Marked with the red spot in the upper left corner of the next picture.
More south we will play Royal Dornoch and south of that Nairn (the red spot).
In this area, from Durness to Nairn, I have marked no less than 20 golf courses. Remember, we are not only going for the well-known courses. We like to play the less known courses (there are some hidden gems) worth playing for less money, and where it’s easy to get in contact with the local people. Learning about their life, culture and values.
And not to forget, we will get to taste a lot of different Scottish whisky.
Finally – the third part – here we go south towards Glasgow. Especially we are heading for Prestwick Golf Club and a bit north of Prestwick Western Gailes Golf Club. To end this part, finally, we will take the ferry to the isle of Arran. The red dot north of Prestwick is Wester Gailes. Also in this area you will find Troon and many, many not so well known golf courses
After the third part it is our idea to fly from Glasgow to Dublin. But we will see if Miss Corona will allow that. If not we will choose between Northern Ireland, Belfast, or go down the coast from Glasgow to Liverpool and from their into Wales.
But now we are looking forward to tomorrow where we are going to play Muirfield golf course, the home course of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. We are going to play 2 rounds. First individual stroke play, then lunch and then 18 holes foursomes.
But right now I have to go to find and buy a shirt with a collar, a tie and a jacket. Otherwise I would not be allowed into their dining room.
Wish us good luck and we wish you all a great day.
P.S We are just back from the shopping trip – went into the first Charity shop, Finn got a jacket and shirt, for £11 and across the street a tie for £2- so an outfit for £13.00 (104dkk). In Denmark you can just buy 2 cups of Cuppucinos for that money. Luckily the shop will get it back tomorrow to re-sell and we have done our bit for charity.
Go for it, and keep us informed all the way
Thanks Gerard, we are having a great time so far
Hi You Two,
Congrats to both of you on your achievements we are proud of you. We wish you all the best for the rest of your trip and look forward to following you on your travels.
We sincerely hope that miss Corona leaves us all in peace.
Stay safe and all our love. Duncan and Laraine
Hi Duncan and Laraine, typical scottish weather here, a new weather pattern every 20 minutes. The area is beautiful and so many courses to play can stay her for 6 months. Thanks for the good wishes
Good luck! I souls have liked to be a “teaspoonlady” (Teskedsgumma, childhood book)in your pocket, following you around the famous golfcourses. Though, I
am very pleased with just coming home after playing, we were four on the trip, om Timmendorfer Strand close to Lübeck, and Sønderjyllands golfbane, both in good shape and in hot, calm sunny weather. 🌺😊❤️
Hi Elisabeth, thanks for the good wishes. Yes you can be the Teskesgumma on our trip. Glad you enjoyed your golf trip. Will keep you posted all the way
It’s begun again 👏 Good luck with the weather and your stamina, you’ll need that. I’m breathless thinking of how many courses you will play.
What a project!!
I’m also impressed with the charity outfit, I take it you guys are travelling light with the exception of the golf clubs. Anyway walk lightly across these gorgeous courses. ❤️
Nina thanks a lot. Yes we are very excited and really looking forward. Hope the weather is going to be good to us.
Good to hear your news, have already been expecting them 😃 Have a great time playing (and drinking whisky?) in Scotland, hope that your golf round at the Prestwick course is dryer than during Amigos on Tour last year… Greetings, Hannele
Hannele and Aldo thanks for the good wishes. Totally different than n Spain, and you need a bag of extra golf balls and not to say about special skills to get out of those bunkers.
Wishing you a fantastic time, hopefully the weather playes its part. Have many ,many fantastic golf rounds. Looking forward seeing you all sometime this year at Torremirona All the best Roland
Roland many thanks for the good wishes. Will keep you updated on all the travels and when we will see you in Torremirona again. A lot of new experiences here. Now need to learn to hit low balls as the wind is a forever factor.
