Torremirona Golf Resort

Next stop is Torremirona golf.
We are now moving only about 35 km from Peralada close to the little village of Navata. See the map below:
The golf club
Torremirona Golf Resort opened in 1992, based on a genuine resort concept.
That for example is no houses between the fairways but around the course. No houses more than 2 levels and strict rules when it comes to colours. Therefore, when you walk the course there is nothing that takes your attention away from a beautiful layout with fairways winding through nature. The only disturbing thing is the walk under the N-260 and the noise of the traffic that you can hear on the next 3-4 holes.
On the photos you will notice that you don’t see any houses. Even though about 350 houses have been built on the resort since 1992, they do not take attention away from the amazing nature but are fitting nicely into the nature.
The owners of these houses come from all over Europe. Many are living there permanently. Lately several local Catalans have also chosen to live here permanently working for companies in the area.
And it is not just because of the golf course, the fantastic nature, and the social life with the Amigos (the name of the resident’s golf club), foreigners have chosen the resort, but also because of the many small towns in the area with fantastic and price friendly food, and not overloaded with golfing tourists, as well as good golfing weather all year around.
I have been to Torremirona since 2006 and chose to build a house in 2008 running workshops on the mental part of the game – mostly for Danish golfers.
The golf course
The greens and fairways have been of high quality at all times of the year. There might be frost in January preventing you to play before 10 o’clock. As said, the quality of greens and fairway are great for playing all year around.
A big disadvantage is the condition of the bunkers. Most of the bunkers have been awful since I started playing the course. No sand and if there are sand it’s mostly compact like cement.
There are however positive signs of new bunkers and plans for improvement. Plans that have been on the table for many years, apparently it takes time to implementing them. But that is basically the only negative thing you can say about the golf course.
The nature is fantastic. Just look at the photos. On all holes – what you see is what you get.
No surprises – only if you are hitting more than 250 meters. From tee to green it looks easy to play, but . . . . . to play your best score you need to place your shots in the right places. For example being on the right side of the fairway to avoid a bunker or a water hazard etc.
Hole 3, par 4. One of the longer holes on the course – though not the longest
Hole 7, par 4. Over the water and keep the drive on the right part of the fairway
Hole 5. Par 3. 150 meter over the water
View to the Pyrenees. The mountain top is called Canigó and is 2,784.66 meter above sea level
The Mental Part of the game
Sorry folks. Not really anything exciting to tell.
I don’t think that I ever learn to accept – feel in peace with myself. That is, the course looks easy, so why can I not regularly play to my handicap ?.
I feel at peace when I can leave the course with 2 or 3 birdies – have even made an eagle, 3 perfect strokes on the par 5 hole 6 – but MAN it’s not easy to accept rounds with double bogeys or worse. Especially on this course.
